I am here and sweating‏

(It was good to hear him when he called from the airport in Atlanta, Georgia! Great to be able to follow info on Facebook too.)

They told us that all packages need to be well wrapped and to put pictures of Christ or Mary or something along the seams of the box so that people will be more deterred from opening it and cutting those pictures. We saw what rain was like last night and got to take a stop at the temple. What a magnificent beauty to behold with lightning and thunder all around. I am definitely in a new country, the plants are amazing, straight out of the movies, all the tropical plants everywhere. All is well and safe. The weather here really isn't too bad. I slept well after the first twenty minutes of drenching my pillow. You have probably seen my picture in front of the temple. All I have to do now is go onward in the trust and Faith of the Lord to do His work. I have all my luggage. I hope to be able to do all that the Lord expects of me. Thanks for the emails and pictures. I haven't seen them as yet but will later. Happy birthday Emmett!!!!!

Going Forward Para Siempre!‏

Thursday, 25 September 2014

We are all getting very excited here in our district. Yes, I have had a haircut, got my suit dry cleaned, got sick, and am on the mend. I think I caught a little of the enfermedad que esta en el CCM or MTC. But with each new package my body has had rejuvenated strength from the love from home. Thanks for all the goodies They have more sentimental value than anything. I met a certain Elder Day this morning. Because I am trying to take the challenge to talk to everybody I cross paths with I asked him where he was from. He said South Carolina! Even better when I said that I had a brother serving there. He got a funny look on his face and tried to look at my Tag and then said he knew an Elder Farnsworth. In fact Cory helped them put manure on their lawn, served in their ward and everything! With Elder Muir! What a good day! His companion is from Utah and knows of Jacob Francis; he was a Kanab Cowboy! Small world. I feel great excitement; the days are short and swirled together, but there is a lot of work to do in the World!

Tools

Thursday, 18 September 2014

This week has been great and it has been wonderful to hear from you.  We are supposed to get our flight plans Friday or Saturday! I feel like I am barely starting my second week here.

Soon to be out of The Empty Sea (MTC) and into the mission field! We have learned a lot of Spanish, some that is easy, most that is more on the difficult side. I feel like I understand most of what is being said, but they told us directly that they are simply giving us the tools to understand and learn more later on our own time. It is very similar to the gospel and our purpose as missionaries; Invitar a las personas a venir a Cristo al ayudarlas a que reciben el Evangelio restaurado, mediante la fe en Jesucristo y Su Expiacion, el arrepentiamento, el bautismo, la recepcion del don del Espiritu Santo, y el perseverar hasta el fin. Or for those that want a translation; Our purpose is to invite others to Come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel, through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the Gift Of The Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.

We give people the basic knowledge needed to have faith unto action to follow Jesus Christ and from there it is up to them to decide whether or not they will continue to use the tools of baptism, prayer, reading the Book Of Mormon, and keeping the commandments to build their testimonies and come unto Christ. I give my thanks to my parents, friends and teachers that helped me to build what I have right now, and I hope I and everyone can make the effort to give these tools to those who only have the tool of hope that gives them enough desire to continue searching for the truth.

Oh Todo Esta Bien!

Thursday, 11 September 2014

Dear Familia! y Amigos! I finally have 2 pictures for you. We finally got a new classroom this week. Our last apartment/classroom flooded every time it rained and has a terrible stench and we assume a lot of mold. We think that it was the mold causing the majority of sickness. I wasn't ever bothered too much by it. We are still greatly enjoying our Preparation Day. We love going to the temple and feeling of the spirit. I met a Shumway this past Tuesday devotional who said he was from Oregon, but recently had a family reunion in Moab, but not with the Shumway Clan. There are many great people here. Now I need to search for Elder Rico (Rich) and Elder Rasmusson. I hope everyone is still reading the Book Of Mormon. We Elders almost fight for time to have Personal Study. It seems there is always something else we have to be doing. It is important for all to know that we truly do receive help and answers through the Book of Mormon and we can answer ?'s that other people have. Heavenly Father Speaks to us if we willingly listen and prepare ourselves.

This Tuesday we cleaned the Thrones of The Kingdom for service. We sang as we went, mainly hymns, but we would be interrupted in our glorious praises by the Hermanas when they would come through to clean the mirrors. Sometimes I think people think that our companionship is crazy, but we were called to be a peculiar people. Anyway, we were able to invite the spirit through our uplifted attitudes.

Like drinking in Spring Water

Thursday, 4 September 2014
Hola from the MTC West campus. This has been a great week. I feel I have learned much at the beginning of each day and by the time I get home and hit the hay I have nothing to say. First off, la comida de la MTC es only good when you view it as, "Yes! Spaghetti! something I can recognize and know I can eat. Shawn Shumway was right though, this food is rough if you've had my momma's cooking. I have made the effort and commitment to eat what I take, it tastes okay, I am still alive, but the part I usually have to pray about are the vegetables. I can eat them, they taste okay, pero I wouldn't normally eat them. The Temple was wonderful, no lunch for us though, we ate at main campus. Elder Adams, Elder Wilkinson (both from Idaho), Elder Bullecer (Temple, Texas), Elder Moss (Arizona) and I are all headed to Costa Rica. There is another district with five or so also going. Elder Adams got a picture of Elder Wilkinson and I in front of the Temple. I don't have that picture, but Elder Adams has a blog somewhere (Mom would like to know where). TRC teaching was great on Monday. Teaching a member that is not our age is like drinking in Spring Water, refreshing.
As far as injuries go..... I have received a soccer ball slightly across my face, design on my knee from ball impact (I was acting like a goalie for the first time in my life), I received a volleyball pretty hard on my face, and been hit on the head once by a volleyball, once by a soccer ball. I had a few jammed fingers after basketball; they are feeling okay today. Most of our district is getting sick, hopefully all I have is my seasonal nasal drip.
Sunday meetings are like mission prep and Spanish Branch, it is Great! I really can't tell the difference between food here and at the main MTC. None of it is homemade, and too many people like their meat the same color as their cat soup (ketchup). Daily shaving for me has made it almost necessary to shave twice daily, it grows fast. Oh I found out that I didn't have any soap after my first one ran out. I was able to get some here. I don't know how it got left out. The elders joke about not joking with me because Elder Wilkinson has told them that I attack my alarm when it goes off. I guess I have been attacking it.... It hasn't dared wake me up for a week now. I'll probably need a new one. The sensor seems to be worn out.
We had a Devotional given by Don R. Clarke of the Seventy. He told us that our main goal is to retain everyone who enters into the Gospel path. Any person worthy of baptism is worthy also of the efforts to bring them to conversion and get them to the temple.
The Book of Mormon is our companion and guide. Let others Know The Truth.  Stay Strong in your studies.
We also learned in a recorded devotional by Elder Bednar, The Doctrine Is The Answer, not applications. First we need to understand the Doctrine, because true doctrine understood changes lives. We then have principles that act as a guide to live the doctrine. Applications simply help us do what is needed of us to change our actions.
I love you all and the support from all our friends. I love the mission and missionary work, not because the food is good because it really isn't completely desirable, but the Spirit is able to work through me. It has happened already.
Con Amor, tu hijo, hermano, y amigo, Elder Farnsworth. P.S. can't quite get pictures to work.
Excerpt from handwritten letter (Aug 28, 2014):
Nuestra familia,
The MTC has been a fast, but good experience. I have been extremely blessed with a great companion. From the first sight and sound for some reason I knew we would get along. So the experience so far has not been as bad as I imagined, and I'll try to keep that imagination far away. Today we were able to go to the temple which was very great. It was nice to use my brain a little differently today rather than grind the gears all day long cada dia. We do get to attend the temple each week. I don't know if it is completely possible to settle in, but now that we have been here a week, things are going more smoothly.
This is God's work and He is watching out for me and He answers prayers. It is truly when we ponder the scriptures in need of answers or comfort that He speaks to us.
